Wand vibrators are as essential to a sex toy collection as a cup of coffee is to your morning routine. Whether you call them “personal massagers” or “the fastest way to orgasm,” there’s no question that wands belong in the bedside tables of beginner and experienced sex toy users alike.
Why? Wand vibes are more powerful than most other types of vibrators, Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, PhD, associate professor of sexual and relational communication at California State University, Fullerton and host of the Luvbites by Dr. Tara podcast, tells SELF. “They deliver rumbly vibrations that diffuse deeply into the body,” she says, for more pleasure and less of a chance of overstimulation (which can happen with smaller vibes, like bullets). While they’re really popular for using on the clitoris, you can also try them on nipples, penises, butts, or anywhere else you want to feel a nice buzz.
Also key: that microphone shape, with a large head and a long handle. “The wider surface area can make it easier to hit your hot spots because you don’t have to be super precise with how you hold the toy,” Dr. Suwinyattichaiporn says. Not only is this useful for beginners, but it also comes in clutch during partnered play.
It doesn’t matter if you’re in the market for your first vibe or your 10th—with so many shapes and sizes out there, finding the right one can be tricky (not to mention time consuming). So we spoke with experts and tested some for ourselves to find the best wand vibrators around. Read on to shop our faves.

How we picked the best wand vibrators
To find the best wand vibrators, SELF contributors pulled on their combined nearly three decades of experience testing and reviewing sex toys. We also consulted 10 experts and asked them to share their tried-and-true recommendations. The final list includes high-quality, top-rated wand vibrators across different sizes, price points, and intensities.
What should you look for in a wand vibrator?
Before you drop major dollars on a sex toy, make sure it’s built to last and that it will live up to your expectations. While you’re shopping, our experts recommend paying attention to these key criteria:
Material
The head of your wand vibrator should be made from a nonporous (i.e., easy-to-clean) material, like medical-grade silicone that’s “safer for use against the skin as well as inside the body,” Jennifer Litner, PhD, AASECT-certified sex therapist and founder of Embrace Sexual Wellness, tells SELF. Some brands may note that their toys are made from “body-safe” materials. So what’s the difference? All medical-grade silicone is also body-safe—but the reverse isn’t always true.
It’s most important for the head to be made of silicone because “that’s where bodily fluids will come in contact with the toy, and you want to be able to clean it properly,” Javay-Frye Nekrasova, MEd, a certified sex educator at Lovehoney, tells SELF. Some handles are ABS plastic, which is a hard, nonporous material that’s also safe to use against the skin and also weighs less than other materials (a nice perk), Dr. Litner says.
If you want to take your wand into the tub or shower, make sure to buy one that’s waterproof (compared to water-resistant or splashproof, which can only handle a light sprinkle). One last tip: When choosing a lube to use with your vibe, go with a water-based one—silicone lubes can ruin your toy’s material.
Size
Wands are bigger than many other types of vibrators, which makes them amazing at radiating strong sensations across larger areas. That can feel great—but some people prefer more targeted stimulation, which is where other smaller massagers come into play, Dr. Litner says. Compact toys can also be easier to hold and control (although using a toy mount or sex pillow can help), may be better for some positions with a partner, and are a great choice for travel too.
Power source
A corded wand offers consistent intensity, and you never have to think about charging it—the downside is you’ll need to be near an outlet. This might not be a big deal when you’re using it by yourself at home, but it can be a pain when you’re switching positions with a partner or going abroad (where you might need an adapter). Luckily, there are tons of rechargeable options that are just as powerful and can stay juiced up for hours at a time.
Noise level
If loud buzzing takes you out of the moment, Dr. Litner recommends visiting a store that carries the wand you’re interested in and seeing how it sounds in person before you commit to it. You can also sift through online reviews to get a sense of a vibrator’s noise level. Keep in mind that the volume might vary once you get it home—you’d be surprised how much your sheets, shower, or a bubble bath can muffle!

Best Overall: Magic Wand
Pros
- Pretty powerful
- Durable design
- Flexible neck
- A time-tested classic
Cons
- Large and corded
- Not waterproof
It’s impossible to talk about wand vibrators without mentioning this OG. Every expert we spoke to recommended the Magic Wand massager, calling it “beloved” and “iconic.” This tried-and-true pick has a hard, ABS-plastic head that makes it easy to apply pressure wherever you need it. And it doesn’t quit: “it’s known for having a powerful and high-quality motor that will last for years,” Indigo Stray Conger, LMFT, an AASECT-certified sex therapist, tells SELF.
The original Magic Wand is corded, so it will never die on you in the middle of a session (so not cool). But if you don’t have an outlet nearby, you may want to try the brand’s rechargeable model instead.

Best Runner-Up: Le Wand Rechargeable Massage Wand
Pros
- Sleek design
- Flexible neck
- Very long battery life
- Lots of vibration speeds and patterns
- Has a travel lock
Cons
- Noisy
- Not waterproof
- Pricey
The oh-so-luxurious Le Wand is another all-time favorite. This rechargeable vibe is similar to the Magic Wand in lots of ways—with a powerful motor, large head, and intuitive buttons—but has a sleeker package. It “feels like a little bit of luxury,” Shadeen Francis, LMFT, an AASECT-certified sex therapist, tells SELF.
While it’s on the pricey side, it has 20 different vibration patterns and 10 intensity levels (that’s more than most other vibes on this list). Plus, five hours of run time on a single charge is pretty impressive.

Best Splurge: Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium
Pros
- Curved handle for easy reach
- Lightweight
- Quiet
Cons
- Less powerful than the Smart Wand 2 Large
Lelo may be best known for their innovative toy designs (case in point: the uniquely curvy Enigma), but it knows how to make a classic, reliable wand too. The Smart Wand 2 is a rumbly massager with a curved handle that helps you reach around bellies, butts, and other bits.
I prefer the Medium, which is a nice weight (5.5 ounces) and size (about 8 inches long). It’s comfortable to hold for longer periods of time, while its slimmer shape makes it ideal for using with a partner. But if you’re looking for something more powerful, a Large option is also available.

Speeds: 4 | Vibration patterns: 10 | Battery life: Up to 240 minutes | Corded: No | Waterproof: Yes
Best for Beginners: Bellesa The Demi Wand
Pros
- Budget-friendly
- Compact
- Quiet
- Waterproof
- Discreet charging case is great for travel
Cons
- Less powerful than some others on this list
This itty-bitty buzzy buddy by Bellesa is perfect for beginners. While it’s a similar size as many bullet vibrators, at 3.5 inches long, it also has the amped-up power of a wand. I love the sunshine yellow color and discreet charging case—you could almost mistake it for a pair of sunglasses in your bag.
Another bonus? The handle doesn’t vibrate, so it won’t numb your hand out while you use it.

Speeds: 8 | Vibration patterns: 0 | Battery life: 60 minutes | Corded: No | Waterproof: Yes
Best for Couples: Le Wand Petite
Pros
- Travel-friendly size
- Flexible neck
- Quieter than most vibes
Cons
- Not waterproof
Smaller wands are best for partnered play because they’re less likely to get in the way, according to Francis. The Le Wand Petite is a great compromise—it’s not so small that it’ll get lost between two bodies, but not so large that it’ll be awkward to maneuver, either. Although it’s on the shorter side, it doesn’t skimp out on power, thanks to 10 rumbly speed settings and six vibration patterns, Francis says.

We still think these toys are worth recommending, even though they didn’t make it into our top picks. (After all, every wand vibe can’t be the best!) Find even more SELF staffer and expert favorites below.
FemmeFunn Ultra Wand
Pros
- All-over texture provides a unique sensation
- Silky smooth handle and head
- Flexible neck
- Waterproof
- A good value
Cons
- Only available in fluorescent colors
The entire FemmeFunn Ultra Wand is coated in buttery, body-safe silicone with a bumpy feel that’s not just for aesthetics. “Textures and sensations on the clit and vulva can bring novelty to the body and mind, which can be more exciting than experiencing the same smooth surface all the time,” Dr. Suwinyattichaiporn previously told SELF.
I’m also a fan of this pick’s simple controls, flexible neck, and lightweight design (you can read my full review of the Ultra Wand here).

Playboy Pleasure Vibrato Wand Vibrator
Pros
- Handle doubles as a dildo
- Uniquely angled neck
- Texture adds to the stimulation
- Waterproof
Cons
- Vibration is lower-intensity
- Button labels are confusing
- A little pricey
If a two-in-one doesn’t impress you, then certainly the three-in-one Vibrato Wand will. While this Playboy Pleasure product may look like a standard wand vibrator, it can also be used as a vibrating dildo or a G-spot massager. The two ends are powered by separate motors, and the handle also twirls to create that come-hither motion that’s so well-suited for G-spot stimulation.

Le Wand Dive Submersible Massager
Pros
- Designed for underwater play
- Flexible neck
- Travel lock
Cons
- Larger and heavier than other options on this list
- Pretty pricey
Love a good solo session in the bathtub or shower? The aptly named Le Wand Dive was made for you. The Dive is durable, rechargeable, and user-friendly (much like our other Le Wand pick above). But what makes it stand out is its completely submersible design, for safe and satisfying underwater exploration. Even better: It has a travel lock, so you can bring it along on your next getaway to use in the Jacuzzi.

Satisfyer Wand-er Woman Wand Vibe
Pros
- Curved, ergonomic design
- A good value
- Waterproof
Cons
- Larger size may make it harder to hold
- On the heavier side
As a professional sex toy reviewer with nearly a decade of experience, one of the hills that I will die on is that Satisyfer is one of the most-overlooked brands in the game. Their vibrators are high-quality and not too expensive (the ideal combo).
When it comes to choosing just one of their vibrators, Rosara Torrisi, PhD, an AASECT-certified sex therapist and the founding director of the Long Island Institute of Sex Therapy, tells SELF that the Wander-Woman Wand is her top pick. “[The handle] has a bit of a curve, so it can get around a bigger body more easily,” she says. Other perks include its extra-large head, waterproof design, and 50 total settings (when you combine its five speeds and 10 vibration patterns).

We-Vibe Wand 2
Pros
- Rumbly vibrations
- Very quiet, despite its intensity
- App-compatible
- Waterproof
Cons
- Expensive
This wand vibrator comes highly recommended by Jessica O’Reilly, PhD, host of the Sex With Dr. Jess podcast and co-author of The Ultimate Guide to Seduction and Foreplay. “The We-Vibe Wand 2 is perfect for those who love intense, deep, rumbly vibes that diffuse across a wide surface area for a deeper, more full-bodied sensation,” she tells SELF.
Despite being most of the most powerful massagers on the list, it’s also one of the quietest—a major bonus for those with roomies, kids, or skittish pets. “It’s super intuitive and easy to use, as it has a tactile switch for modulating settings and an ergonomic handle,” Dr. O’Reilly adds. It can even be synced with the We-Vibe Connect app on your phone, so you can adjust the settings more easily or use it with a long-distance partner.

Doxy Extra Powerful Massage Wand Vibrator
Pros
- Incredibly powerful vibrations
- Handle can be used for temperature play
- Buttons are clearly labeled
Cons
- Priciest option on this list
- Size may make it hard to hold
If other vibrators leave you wanting more, try this one from Doxy. Like the Magic Wand, it’s corded, so it can’t die on you mid-solo session. Meanwhile, the aluminum and titanium handle adds some heft, which increases the amount of pressure this vibe can deliver.
Enjoy (or looking to get into) temperature play? Stick it in the fridge to cool it down before you get going. We’re also fans of the clearly labeled buttons that make it easy to cycle through the Doxy’s eight settings.

BMS Palm Power Pocket Massager
Pros
- Budget-friendly
- Lots of settings, for a smaller vibe
- Only one button
- Beginner-friendly
Cons
- Not as intense as others on this list
“Wands can feel intimidating to someone who has never used a sex toy before, so I recommend this as something that’s a bit more approachable and discreet for beginners,” sex therapist Madeline Cooper, LCSW, tells SELF. Despite its size, this mini massager still has an impressive number of speeds. It’s also budget-friendly, has only one button (no need to spend time deciphering the controls), and comes with a small—and discreet—silicone case.

Lovehoney Deluxe Mini Wand
Pros
- Beginner-friendly size
- Ultra-flexible neck
- Waterproof
- Budget-friendly
Cons
- Textured neck can be harder to clean
While the Deluxe Mini is small, it’s also pretty mighty, Megan Fleming, MD, a psychologist and AASECT-certified sex therapist, tells SELF. Its seven vibration patterns and 10 speed settings provide plenty of variety—FYI, that’s 70 combinations total. Plus, the ultra-flexible neck comes in handy when you’re using it with a partner (or two).

Magic Wand Micro Massager
Pros
- Impressively powerful, given its size
- Lighter than the original
- Impressive battery life
- A good value
Cons
- Not as powerful as the original Magic Wand
- Not waterproof or splashproof
Maybe you’re already well-acquainted with the regular Magic Wand and don’t want to go anywhere without it. Or, maybe you want to test the Magic Wand out before committing to its full price tag. Either way, Dr. Torrisi recommends the travel-friendly Micro version to one and all.
It measures 4.5 inches long (compared to the OG, which is 12 inches), so it's easier to fit in your luggage or bedside table. And it’s rechargeable, so you don’t have to worry about finding an outlet in your hotel or getting wild by a wall. While it isn’t quite as powerful as the original, the Micro does have an extra speed setting, so you have more options to play with.

Lovehoney Desire Luxury Rechargeable Wand
Pros
- Slim handle is easy to grip
- Fits between bodies
- Flexible neck
- Great battery life
Cons
- Heft may limit length of play
The Desire has a slimmer handle and head, making it “a great choice to use between bodies or in more acrobatic positions,” as opposed to something chunkier, Nekrasova says. Also nice: The buttons have raised ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ signs, so you can literally feel the controls (even if you can’t see them in the heat of the moment).

Goop Wellness Double-Sided Wand Vibrator
Pros
- Two-in-one design can be used internally and externally
- Has one motor in each end
- Travel lock
- Decent battery life
Cons
- Not waterproof
- Goop reviewers say it can be noisy
Want to keep your options open? This dual-ended vibe has a tennis ball-shaped head that can target the clitoris and a slim, tapered handle that’s ideal for penetration. “Both ends vibrate,” Francis says—and they have separate motors, so your hand won’t go numb (even during longer sessions). Also key: The travel lock, which ensures it’ll never go off in your suitcase or overnight bag.

Dame Com Vibrator
Pros
- Curved, ergonomic handle
- Flexible neck
- Waterproof
- Quiet, according to Dame shoppers
Cons
- On the bulkier side
Dame’s Com Wand Vibrator has an extra curvy handle and a flexible neck that work together to help you hit all the right angles. One SELF staffer says it got her off “in mere minutes,” and Dame reviewers feel the same way: “I didn't know I could squirt,” one wrote. “That is all.”

Unbound Ollie High Power Wand Vibe
Pros
- Waterproof
- Covered in medical-grade silicone
- Unbound reviewers say it’s rumbly, not buzzy
Cons
- Can be a little loud, according to shoppers
Dr. Torrisi recommends the Ollie because it’s “super light, playful, and straightforward.” Meanwhile, the toy is coated in medical-grade silicone and the buttons are well-labeled (no more fumbling around frustrated in the dark).
“I haven’t needed to go past the first vibe setting,” one Unbound reviewer wrote. “Y’all, it’s too good.”

plusOne Mega Massager
Pros
- Multiple attachments included
- Angled head for easy reach
- Waterproof
- Budget-friendly
Cons
- Walmart shoppers say it’s noisy
As unique as this option may look in my collection of microphone-shaped wand vibes, the curved head makes it easier to hit my hot spots. Often, my wrist cramps up and my arms tucker out from holding a vibrator at the angle I need to pleasure myself—but I’ve never had that problem with the ergonomic Mega Massager. I also love that this budget-friendly pick includes a knobby silicone sleeve that can slide over the smooth attachment for some extra texture.

Natural Love Company Cassia Dual-Ended Wand
Pros
- Waterproof
- Dual-ended
- Great for reaching the G-spot
Cons
- Only has one speed
- Pretty pricey
While wand vibrators are notoriously loud, you can fly under the radar while using the Cassia’s “gentle touch mode,” which is designed to be extra quiet and subtle. Plus, it has a curved handle that makes it easy to access your G-spot, as Conger points out.

Le Wand Stroke Penis Play Attachment
Pros
- 360-degree reach
- Lots of interesting textures to play with
Cons
- Not compatible with all wand vibrators
The Le Wand Stroke Attachment transforms your massager into one of the most rumbly strokers around. To use it, slide the silicone attachment over the head of your vibrator, grab your go-to water-based lube, and let the soft, flexible ridges do their thing, Bobby Box, a certified sex educator and brand ambassador with Le Wand and b-Vibe, tells SELF. He’s also a fan of the open-ended design, which fits a wide range of bodies.

Le Wand Flick Attachment
Pros
- Designed for pinpointed stimulation
- Moves like a tongue
- Can also be used on nipples or penises
Cons
- Not compatible with all wand vibrators
Wands expertly deliver vibrations to a wide surface area—but if you’ve got a hankering for the more pinpointed stimulation that a tongue or clitoral vibrator can offer, consider the Le Wand Flick. “Flick is an attachment that turns your massager into a flickering, tongue-mimicking tease machine,” says Box. It’s made from a flexible, body-safe silicone, he adds, so it should stretch to fit over the head of most vibrators.
